Resisting the Seduction of Materialism

Webster defines materialism as: "the tendency to be more concerned with material than with spiritual or intellectual values."  In the shadows of your heart, do you wrestle with being materialistic?  How do you know?  Is "stuff" overly important to you?  As a Christ-follower, what is the proper place and value of material possessions in one's life?  How can we prevent our affluence from numbing us to our need for and reliance upon God?
